Music icon Sean 'Diddy' Combs found himself in hot water with the judge presiding over his high-profile sex trafficking case after allegedly attempting to influence jurors through subtle gestures.
The 55-year-old entertainment mogul, currently facing serious charges including racketeering and sex trafficking by force, received a stern warning from Judge Arun Subramanian during Thursday's proceedings. The confrontation occurred after the judge observed Combs "vigorously nodding" while Bryana Bongolan - a friend of his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura - provided testimony.
During a lunch recess when jurors had exited the courtroom, Judge Subramanian delivered a pointed message to Combs' legal team: "My instructions regarding courtroom conduct were unequivocal - no facial expressions directed at the jury. Yet your client was clearly nodding emphatically while making eye contact with panel members."
The visibly displeased judge continued: "This behavior is completely unacceptable. Should it persist, I will have no choice but to implement restrictive measures you'll find unfavorable, up to and including removing your client from these proceedings. Are we clear?"
Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo quickly assured the court there would be no repeat of the incident.
The Bad Boy Records founder was taken into custody in September 2024 following multiple allegations related to sex trafficking operations. Despite maintaining his innocence on all counts - which include transportation for prostitution purposes along with fraud and coercion charges - prosecutors have been methodically presenting their case against him over recent weeks.
Legal analysts expect government attorneys to conclude their presentation shortly, paving the way for Combs' defense team to begin what could become an extended counterargument stretching through June's end.The blockbuster trial has captivated media attention since its May commencement, focusing on explosive claims that Combs masterminded an elaborate scheme involving coerced participation in drug-laden sexual gatherings dubbed "freak-offs." Prosecutors allege these events regularly featured celebrity attendees alongside forced intoxication and nonconsensual encounters.A central figure in these allegations remains singer Cassie Ventura (full name Casandra Ventura), whose November 2023 civil suit against her former partner detailed shocking accusations of sustained physical abuse, sexual assault and pressured involvement in group sex scenarios. Though swiftly settled out of court within 24 hours of filing, Ventura's claims form much of the foundation for current criminal proceedings.Combs continues denying any wrongdoing through official channels while potentially staring down life imprisonment should jurors ultimately convict him on all pending charges as trial testimony continues unfolding behind New York courtroom doors.Advertisement
