A touching Instagram Reel posted on June 5 captured local actresses Hong Huifang and her daughter Tay Ying in a candid conversation about their special bond. The emotional exchange comes just weeks before Tay Ying's highly anticipated wedding to celebrity chef Wu Sihan later this month.
The pair used a charming gacha machine to select thought-provoking questions for their discussion. When 64-year-old Huifang asked her 29-year-old daughter, "What is one thing I didn't do well as a mother?", Tay Ying's heartfelt response revealed deep affection: "You don't love yourself enough. Growing up, you focused so much on worrying about us that you often forgot yourself. Now it's your time to prioritize self-care."
Huifang responded with characteristic humor: "I think I will, because I left not too long anymore," prompting an exasperated "Aiyoh" from her daughter.
The conversation turned nostalgic when recalling proud moments in each other's lives. Tay Ying beamed while remembering her mother's triumph at the gala screening of Singaporean-South Korean film Ajoomma (2022), where industry peers showered Huifang with applause. Meanwhile, Huifang expressed overwhelming joy about her daughter's upcoming marriage: "I'm so happy you finally found the man of your dreams."
Tay Ying playfully sighed at this maternal focus: "Done so many good things in my life as a daughter but this is the only one [you mention]." To which Huifang wisely replied: "This is your happiness - it matters most. The first half of my life was devoted to caring for you; now someone else will cherish you through my second half."
Their dialogue deepened when Tay Ying sought relationship advice from her experienced mother, asking if she ever considered leaving her marriage with Geping (Tay Ying's father). Without hesitation, Huifang answered firmly: "No," before offering valuable wisdom for newlyweds:
"Both partners come from different backgrounds - naturally your habits and temperaments will differ too. A relationship needs constant nurturing like tending a tree; neglect leads to withering."
