Beyond Expeditions Responds to Safety Concerns on Madagascar Expedition

A Singapore-based adventure travel company has addressed criticisms about planning and safety issues on a recent expedition to Madagascar. The concerns were raised by some participants regarding alleged gaps in safety protocols and planning.

Beyond Expeditions, founded by Scott Tay and Kavita Kaur, acknowledged these concerns in a post on Tuesday (July 16) and assured that they are taking concrete steps to enhance pre-trip communication, terrain briefings, and daily pacing for future expeditions.

The company recognized that while many participants found the experience powerful, some felt unprepared or concerned about certain aspects of the journey.

The statement from Beyond Expeditions followed posts and reviews by participants highlighting safety issues during a recent charity expedition to Madagascar. Cheryl Tay, a sports marketing agency owner, detailed her experience in a review on Instagram, mentioning operational shortcomings and safety gaps encountered during the expedition.

Cheryl's review emphasized issues such as participants getting lost during treks without guidance, safety concerns during activities like canyoning, and inadequate briefings about terrain and climate.

Concerns raised by Cheryl and others prompted Beyond Expeditions to emphasize that safety is their top priority. The company stated that the expedition had extensive support, including licensed local crews, medical personnel, and emergency protocols.

Despite positive reviews from some participants, others like Cheryl and social media personality J Jaikishan pointed out the need for stronger regulations in the adventure travel industry to ensure participant safety.

Beyond Expeditions responded by expressing their commitment to improving expedition design and safety measures. They acknowledged the feedback received and stated their willingness to engage in further conversations.

While not all experiences with Beyond Expeditions have been negative, the company is taking steps to address the concerns raised and enhance safety protocols for future expeditions.
