A Malaysian doctor has issued a public apology after being accused of having an affair with a woman inside his vehicle.
The video of the alleged incident, recorded by the woman's husband, went viral after it was shared online on Sunday (Aug 24).
In a video posted on his Facebook account on Aug 27, the doctor, Wong Lu Yang, expressed his apology to his wife, recognizing the pain he had caused.
Speaking in Mandarin, Wong revealed that the incident took place two to three months ago, but he chose to confess and ask for his wife's forgiveness shortly after receiving "various videos and photos."
"We have reached a mutual agreement; she has agreed to allow me back into the family so that we can focus on rebuilding our marriage and family," Wong said, expressing gratitude to his wife.
"The case is currently undergoing legal proceedings, and I urge all parties to respect our privacy."
In the video, Wong also pledged to take full responsibility for his actions and stated that they would seek legal counsel when necessary.
Towards the end of the video, a woman believed to be Wong's wife appeared, appealing for privacy.
"I hope everyone can respect our privacy and refrain from involving our children or family," she added.
Suspended from his duties
Before releasing the video, Wong discussed the cyberbullying challenges he and his family have faced.
"False and damaging content, including my personal details, my family members, friends, and organizations I am associated with, as well as my contact information, have been circulated without my consent," Wong stated in a post on Wednesday.
He mentioned that a police report has been filed, and he intends to take legal action against those misusing his personal data, posting defamatory content, or harassing his family.
Following the incident, JCI Kota Bahru, a non-governmental organization, posted an update on its Facebook page addressing the situation, announcing that Wong has been suspended from his duties immediately in light of the allegations.
"We want to clarify that this is a personal matter involving the current president and is unrelated to JCI Kota Bharu's mission or activities," the organization stated.
"The matter will undergo internal review, and appropriate actions will be taken in line with our organizational values."
