Vending machines have come a long way from dispensing prepackaged food and beverages to offering a variety of options, including hot meals like never before.
In the near future, ChefGenie, an AI-powered automated kitchen, will revolutionize the vending machine experience by introducing freshly cooked food from eight popular homegrown brands.
ChefGenie, created by the local tech company Aikit, will be a part of a six-month F&B autonomous kitchen pilot program across Singapore. This initiative, supported by EnterpriseSG, aims to explore autonomous kitchens as a manpower-efficient method for F&B companies to expand while also increasing consumer acceptance of this innovative concept.
The pilot program is set to launch on September 9 at Punggol Digital District (PDD).
Eight well-known homegrown brands, including Michelin Bib Gourmand Warong Pak Sapari, Michelin-recommended Springleaf Prata, Eat Pizza, Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks, Takagi Ramen, Tuk Tuk Cha, The Hainan Story, and Instachef, will be available through ChefGenie's vending machines. These brands offer a diverse range of dishes, from hand-pulled prata to traditional Taiwanese street snacks.
ChefGenie utilizes proprietary smart cooking technology to prepare these dishes, ensuring that each meal is freshly cooked and of high restaurant quality.
Additionally, ChefGenie's technology includes automated backend processes such as stock tracking and ingredient replenishment. Its AI capabilities enable features like suggesting popular items and making real-time menu adjustments based on consumer trends.
The concept of AI-powered smart kitchens was born out of Aikit's observation of industry gaps in food quality and customer engagement. Traditional options often relied on microwaved frozen meals and outdated technology, leading to the creation of ChefGenie to offer scalable, cost-efficient solutions for restaurants and foodservice operators while addressing manpower constraints and reducing operational costs.
The development of ChefGenie was inspired by the success of InstaChef, a local automated meal delivery service launched in 2023. InstaChef combined chef-prepared recipes with smart kitchen technology, showcasing how automation could enhance food accessibility and tackle workforce challenges effectively.

To celebrate the pilot program's launch, diners can enjoy meals from ChefGenie-powered vending machines for just $1.99. Only 4,000 such meals will be available from September 9 to 14, between 12pm to 8pm exclusively at the Punggol Coast Mall in PDD, while stocks last.
