Just 12 hours after a 2.5-magnitude earthquake shook Johor on Thursday, another earthquake with a magnitude of 3.4 has struck the Malaysian state.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department reported that the quake occurred at 4:24 am on Friday, 22km northeast of Segamat at a depth of 10km.
The agency stated that tremors were felt in Johor and they are closely monitoring the situation.
Following the earthquake on Sunday, Johor has experienced a series of minor seismic activities.
A second milder earthquake with a magnitude of 2.8 was recorded a few hours after the initial seismic event at 6:13 am.
On Wednesday, a 3.2-magnitude earthquake struck 18km south of Segamat at a depth of 10km.
Experts suggest that the earthquake on Sunday in Johor indicates the necessity for further in-depth studies to determine whether it may be caused by the reactivation of a small inactive fault or a different fault altogether.
